Situated in South Kerala at North end boarder of Trivandrum District, Varkala is an amazing seaside resort and spa. HISTORY & HERITAGE

According to a myth, sage Narada was approached by a group of mendicants who confessed to having sinned. Narada threw his valkkalam (cloth made of the bark of a tree) into the air, and the place where it landed was subsequently named Varkala.The mendicants were directed by Narada to offer their prayers in the newly created place by the seashore. The place where they prayed for redemption, came to be known as the  Papanasham Beach ( Papanasham means redemption from sins).The 2000 year old Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple and the Nature Care Centre are the two main attractions here
THINGS TO BE DONE
Varkala is a place where nothing more to be done than, relaxing at the beach side, taking an Ayurvedic treatment, go for an elephant ride, rent a bike and do a village tour, etc. if you are a Hindu then you are not afford to miss Varkala's 2000 year old Janardhana Swami Temple and Papanasm (fresh water spring on the beach side)beach.

SIGHT SEEING TRIPS

You can do a short trip to KAPPIL beach where you can see Kappil lake mixing with Aranbian sea, and do a same kind of trip to Anchuthengu (Anchengu)a fishermen village with beach , back water, British Fort & a Light house, In Varkala you can visit Janardhana Swami Temple & Sivagiri Ashram
